Significant debt was incurred as a result of an ambitious redevelopment plan for the Kino to have three screens and a cafe. It was intended that the redeveloped Kino would provide increased choice for cinema goers and also allow the Kino to benefit from the economies of scale currently enjoyed by multi-screen cinemas. Unfortunately, these plans did not come to fruition and the debts remain due. Because of this, the cinema is now threatened with closure.
