The Kino Cinema in Washington Street, Cork is in financial difficulty and faces closure.

There is considerable public support for the Kino as an independent cinema in Cork. A public meeting was held on Saturday 31st October at Cork Opera House attended by members of the public, city councilors and TDs. All were united in their support for the Kino and there is a sense that saving the Kino is an achievable goal. A steering committee was chosen at the
public meeting. This committee met the following day where a group of Trustees were chosen - William Galinsky, Shirley Sommers, Catherine Kirwan and Eimear O’Herlihy - and made a commitment to fundraising and the drawing up of a business plan. We hope to report back with an update and concrete proposal very soon.

In the meantime a Save the Kino bank account has been opened. Details on how to donate are here.  Any monies donated are protected by a Declaration of Trust that can be viewed here.

Thank you all so much for your help and support. This campaign to save one of our much loved cultural institutions has been unprecedented. We are optimistic that with your help we can SAVE THE KINO.
